Vascular Medicine Institute

Welcome

A Vessel for Collaboration, Investigation, and Cultivation.

The vision of the Vascular Medicine Institute (VMI) is to harness interdisciplinary teams of researchers to expand our understanding of the control of blood flow to organ systems and the development of novel therapies for conditions such as pulmonary hypertension, sickle cell vasculopathy, atherosclerosis, hypertension, and heart disease.

It pursues its mission and vision through four goals:

  • Determining the molecular mechanisms underlying clinically important biomedical problems of hemostasis, thrombosis, transfusion medicine, and vascular biology
  • Developing novel, rationally designed therapies targeting diseases of hemostasis, thrombosis, transfusion medicine, and vascular biology to improve the quality of life for patients affected by related disorders
  • Fostering the development of a multidisciplinary training environment for graduate and medical students, residents, clinical, and postdoctoral fellows, with an emphasis on hemostasis, thrombosis, transfusion medicine, and vascular biology
  • Enhancing the reputation and recognition of the Institute for Transfusion Medicine (ITxM) and the Hemophilia Center of Western Pennsylvania (HCWP) regionally and nationally as active participants in laboratory-based basic and translational research
I invite you to explore our online annual report and thank you for visiting.
